Grant Criteria and Process Overview

The mission of the Children's Trust Fund of Oregon Foundation (CTFO) is to support the establishment of community-based direct service programs designed to provide universal prevention programs which reduce the incidence of child abuse and neglect and promote healthy, safe families. We prefer grants for programs or program components which help children by targeting increased caretaker skills and child development knowledge rather than direct services which target children as clients.

These programs must be accessible and available to all persons in need in the targeted area. Programs are encouraged to use trained volunteers, as appropriate to the program model. However, use of direct service volunteers is not a requirement. Priority consideration is given to community programs that demonstrate effectiveness through promising or evidenced-based practices and community financial support.

The Children’s Trust Fund of Oregon grants will be awarded for a two-year, annually renewable, period beginning July 1, 2011 through June 30, 2013. These grants will be subject to the availability of funds.

The Children's Trust Fund grants currently are awarded up to $20,000 per program per year. Requests for more than $20,000 per project per year will be disqualified from further consideration.

If you have questions about your proposal and its potential for funding by the CTFO, we encourage you to contact our staff to discuss your concept or any questions about our RFP process. CTFO Grantmaking

Our Grantmaking Decision Process

The Program Committee of the Board of Trustees reviews applications on a bi-annual basis. The committee, comprised of five leading experts in child abuse intervention, scores each proposal and submits their recommendations to the full Board of Trustees. The full Board makes the final decision on funding based on one, the score awarded to each proposal by the Program Committee; and two, the degree to which the proposal addresses the following priority areas:

  • Parent support and education programs, including those targeting teen parents and others;
  • High risk families, including those with substance abusing problems, domestic violence problems, or with children with disabilities;
  • Under served minority and ethnic populations;
  • Under served geographic areas; and
  • Replication of proven prevention model.
